Mineralogical Characterization of Manganese Oxide Minerals of the Devonian Xialei Manganese Deposit

The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is an important manganese ore district in Southwest China, with resource reserves accounting for 23% of the total China. Xialei deposit (Daxin County, Guangxi) first super-large discovered Mn oxide supergene oxidation zone was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy spectrometer (EDS), transmission (TEM, HRTEM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). oxides have a gray-black/steel-gray color, semi-metallic-earthy luster, appear as oolitic, pisolitic, banded, massive, cellular textures. Scanning images show that minerals are present fine-spherical particles earthy surface. TEM HRTEM indicate presence oriented bundled staggered nanorods, nanopores between crystals. can be classified into two textural types: (1) oolitic pisolitic (often annuli) oxide, (2) massive oxide. Pyrolusite, cryptomelane, hollandite main minerals. potassium contents cryptomelane pyrolusite discussed. unit cell parameters refined.
